INJURED BASE JUMPER: BURRO CREEK BRIDGE

INJURED BASE JUMPER: BURRO CREEK BRIDGE

About 8pm Tuesday (6/23) evening, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office received a call for help from a 30-year-old male who was injured at the base of the Burro Creek bridge, southeast of Wikieup. He attempted to base jump from the Burro Creek bridge and his landing caused severe injuries to his legs. Sheriff Deputies, Search and Rescue, ADOT, River Medical, Bagdad Fire, AZ DPS Troopers, Kingman DPS Ranger Helicopter, and Careflight Helicopter were all activated to his location.

Upon arrival, medics from the Careflight helicopter and the Kingman DPS Ranger helicopter crew began rendering aid. He was transported by the Kingman DPS Ranger helicopter and transferred to Careflight, where he was flown to Phoenix for medical evaluation. During the rescue, ADOT closed one lane of the northbound traffic along the bridge and closed it completely while the helicopters were transferring him on the highway. Great job by everyone involved! Be safe out there. Have an exit plan, have a backup – and please do not go out recreating alone!
